No number without a walkthrough

How pricing works

A ductless system in an old house is priced from the house. This is what moves the number, and when you get it.

  • What decides the price

The number of zones, the size and type of the outdoor unit, how far the line sets run, what the panel needs, and whether the walls are plaster, lath or drywall.

    • Zones and head types

    • Outdoor unit and its capacity

    • Line-set routes

    • Electrical and panel

    • Access, permit and inspection

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

The proposal lists every room, each model, the line sets, the electrical, the permit and inspection, and haul-away. It also lists what is left out, such as painting and insulation work.

    • Scope by room

    • Equipment named

    • The manufacturer's warranty terms

    • How long the proposal holds

  • What happens at the visit

We walk the house, open the panel and agree where each head goes. We tell you the walkthrough fee before we book it, and say whether it is credited toward the work.

    • Walk every room

    • Check the panel

    • Plan the line sets

    • Written proposal after

  • When you get the number

In writing, with the proposal. We do not give a price over the phone for a house we have not seen.

    • After the walkthrough

    • In one document

    • Held for the days it states

  • If the job changes

We write down any change, with what it costs, and agree on it before we do the work.

    • In writing first

    • Its cost stated

    • No change done by phone only

  • How and when you pay

The proposal says when each payment is due and what is due before work starts. Ask us what your utility or the state offers; programs change, so we check the day you get your proposal.

    • Payments tied to stages

    • What is due before work

    • Utility and state programs, checked at proposal

Questions about cost

Why no prices on the site?

Two houses with the same number of rooms can need very different work. The walls, the panel and the line-set route decide it. We would rather give you one honest number than a range.

Are there rebates?

Utility and state programs for heat pumps change. We cannot promise an amount. Ask us on the walkthrough which programs apply to your address.

Do you finance?

Ask us. If we offer a loan, the lender, the term, the rate and the credit terms are written in the proposal.

What is not in a proposal?

Painting, moving furniture and insulation work, unless the proposal lists them. The proposal says what is left out.

Start with a walkthrough

Send the age of the house and a photo of each room. We will schedule the walkthrough and write the proposal.
